Chapter 4 - Preparation

As soon as I got home I found note from Shelly that she had left for the hotel. We had decided that since we couldn't arrive at the party together anyway, and we couldn't let each other know what our costume was supposed to be, it would just be easier to spend the evening apart. Shelly always did like staying in hotels, so she volunteered to do so.

I went straight up to the bedroom and put the box down. Strangely enough, where I had thought there was script that I couldn't read when I looked at the box the first time, now I could see that it was clearly written all in English. The even stranger thing was that it read "HOLD FOR Colin". Especially since this was no cardboard box written on in magic marker. In fact, the closer I examined the box the more I became fascinated by it.

It was made of a delicate looking wood with a deep reddish-brown sheen that was unlike any color I had ever seen before. The markings themselves seemed both carved into the box, and almost to float over it. Neither was true however. Running my fingers over the lettering, it was as smooth as though nothing was there.
