Chapter 14

Nervously, Melissa waited in the lobby of IBP. This morning, she would make the presentation of the PIMS program for the first time by herself. She kept going over it in her head, not missing a step, but thinking that she would mess it up in front of Ms. Marlow. She was so engrossed in her rehearsal, that she didn't hear he name being called until the second time. Quickly standing, she followed Ms. Marlow's secretary back to her office. Ms. Marlow greeted her warmly with a firm handshake and asked Melissa to be seated.

After a few minutes of polite conversation, Melissa set up her machine and turned it on. When the tape was finished, Ms. Marlow asked a number of questions, gathered up the accompanying literature, and thanked Melissa for such a professional presentation, saying that she would consider it.

As Melissa pulled out of the plant parking lot, she had mixed feelings about the call. She felt that she had made a good presentation, and had answered all of Ms. Marlow's questions to her satisfaction. Yet, she couldn't get a handle on her reception. Melissa could easily read ...
