The Landlord ------------

When I was a student at University in Edinburgh my friend Kath and I managed to find rooms in a large Victorian 5 bedroom flat in a tenement block next to the Meadows. We shared the flat with Sarah a student nurse and Claire who said she was a dancer.

She certainly had the legs for it and always seemed to have nicer clothes and much more money than the rest of us. We found the flat through an advert in the local newspaper and were shown round by Claire who was renting one of the other rooms.

Claire said she had been living there for about six months and had agreed to help the owner find some new tenants after the previous years crop of students had graduated. She explained that the owner was a businessman who he had bought the flat as an investment to rent out but that he was keeping one of the bedrooms for his own use since, although he no longer lived in Edinburgh, he was sometimes in town on business.

The University was only a short walk across the Meadows from the flat which meant I could get a long lie in in the mornings and still make my lectures and was also close to all the pubs and nightlife of central Edinburgh. All in all it was an ideal location if a little pricey for my budget. Its hard making ends meet as a student these days and most of my friends had a part time job as well as their studies. ...
