THE MECHANIC

She was running late. She grabbed her briefcase and handbag and made for the door. Her car was park on the driveway; she threw the bags in the back and returned to the house for her jacket, which was hanging on the back of the door. It was hot, so she carried it under her arm until she got to the car, then she hung it on the hanger and climbed into the driver's seat. The engine gunned into life immediately and she carefully reversed out of the drive.

The service on her car was overdue; it was a pain having to take it in today especially because she would have to beg lifts to and from meetings but if she delayed any longer it would affect the warranty. Luckily, the garage was only a few miles from her home and she made good time. She had been using the same garage for years. It was run by a guy called Ron. If she were lucky, he would give her a lift into work.

When she arrived, the place looked deserted. She got out and went inside, carefully making her way through the cars.

‘Hi, is anyone there.' She called out. They were open so someone must be here, she thought.
