I Get Aligned

At five til eight, I was at the tire and alignment shop. The price quoted for the alignment was seventy bucks. I thought it was too much, but I didn't try to negotiate. After paying, I'd still have twenty-eight bucks, enough for a tank of gas, and perhaps a sourdough breakfast jack, when I stopped for gas.

I sat in the waiting room, and began to read Sunday's San Jose Mercury newspaper. Just before nine, a guy came in to the waiting room. He was wearing a company shirt. The name on the shirt was "Dan." After a day dressed the way I was, by now I was inured to the leers of men.

I looked in my purse. I still had the directions yesterday's tire guy gave me to the place where he and his buddy, Dan, were going to "give me an alignment" last night. Holy Shit! The address was the same. I didn't say anything to Dan.
