Wake-up Call

Trial stinks. Long hours - performing each day in front of the judge and jury - dealing with clients. I haven't been writing stories because of too much work getting ready for a trial, and a long dry spell while my nose was held to the grindstone.

My recent trial in New Orleans, however, was amazing for five reasons - Roxy, Sara, Connie, Brynn and Elizabeth. Pushing 40 and all hell breaks loose in my sexual life over a six week period last fall with two hotel staff, our in-court technology liaison, and two young associates at our local counsel's office.

Our local counsel's office is in a modern tower that sits on most of a block. One corner is occupied by an old bank building that has been converted into a hotel. We borrowed a conference room and two offices to use during trial and arranged rooms at the hotel for my associate and paralegal. The firm has about 30 lawyers, a mix of young and old.

The hotel on the corner is small, only about 100 rooms, and is usually quiet because it is not in the French Quarter. Both the hotel and the office are a ten minute walk to the courthouse. I had stayed at the hotel only once or twice, preferring to stay at the Ritz or another hotel (see my stories A Tuesday Night on Bourbon Street and Fun in the Quarter).
