I guess I was a pretty typical 18 year old. I seemed to be in a constant battle with my parents since graduation. I had just been dumped by my girl friend of 2 years. I was having trouble finding a full time job other than flipping burgers. I screwed up high school so college wasn't on my horizons. I was really feeling overwhelmed, so on Friday I decided to get a 12 pack and head for the beach at night to chill and try to do some soul searching. So, Ii stopped at seven eleven, got the beer and hit the highway at about 8 PM. It was about a 40-minute ride to the beach. I was on the road about 20 minutes when my run of bad luck continued. My engine suddenly sputtered and cut out. I coasted onto the grass. I didn't know a thing about cars. I looked under the hood, which was really useless. I locked up the car and started to walk. I couldn't have picked a worse place to break down. It was at least 3 miles in either direction to an exit or populated area. I was walking for 20 minutes or so when a car pulled over ahead of me. A man got out and waited for me to get up to him. "Could you use a ride?" he asked "Sure could, thanks," I said to him We got in his car and he pulled onto the highway. "That your car back there off the road?" he inquired "Yes it is, just the latest in my great run of luck these days" I replied I proceeded to spill my guts to this total stranger. My frustrations just poured out and I found myself almost in tears. I apologized for running off at the mouth. "No problem man, we all need someone to let it out too," he said in an understanding tone. He had a deep, soft voice that was very reassuring.
