Bren Ash stood before the large window in his high-rise office at Reed and Cummings and stared out intently at the panoramic view of the city. He looked every bit the part of a hard-working, young, up and coming attorney in his dark blue, pin stripe Brooks Bros. suit, starched white shirt, "power" tie and suspenders. He was tall, bald, and his face was clean-shaven. His deep cocoa skin was unblemished, and he had big dark brown eyes that you remembered once you met him. If he hadn't chosen the profession of law, he might have had a fine career as a GQ model.

His mind raced with thoughts of the noon luncheon and the imminent partnership that would be offered. He'd worked hard to get to this point. It should have been a time to reflect on his many accomplishments with pride, but Ash had his reservations about the impending alliance.

Reed and Cummings was a relatively small law firm in Minneapolis. The firm specialized in the areas of Business, Securities, Commodities, Insurance and Personal Injury litigation. Its client list was more than respectable for the number of attorneys on staff.
