Arctic Blue By: Michael Loss

This is a re-write of a series I had started a few years ago but never got around to completing, and on reviewing my original submission decided it would be best to start from scratch. Prologue

"Do you know what the main cause of absence from work is?" the bespectacled man asked openly to the couple of dozen of us seated around the room, squinting at the faded overhead projection he was pointing to with some laser gizmo he probably had to order off the internet.

"A hangover?" someone chirped from across the room, causing a slight murmur of laughter.

"Well no, but that might be related actually. It used to be related to neck and back ailments, but the statistics today show the major cause of absence from work is down to stress. That's why one of the benefits your company is offering you, as an incentive to stay here long term, is the opportunity to purchase extra holiday leave, up to three days!" ...
