I realize that the average time to seduce a straight roommate on this site is about 1500 words. I'm afraid you'll have to be a lot more patient and realistic about your expectations if you're going to enjoy this story. Part 1 of a 15-part novella.

I had been counting on someone leaving a newspaper lying around in the break room at work, so I hadn't bothered to buy my own paper. For the last several weeks, I'd had no trouble finding the Classifieds section. Today, all I could find was the front page ("Senate Sex Scandal Probe Continues," "Nebraska Serial Killer Claims Fourth Victim," and "Electric Rates May Rise, Officials Warn") and some pages from the middle of the Science and Technology section ("Transmissions From Alien Moon Base Still a Mystery" "Sleeping Pill Prescriptions Up 14%," and "NASA Says Return To Moon Will Take 7 Years").

"Looking for the funnies?" one of my coworkers asked teasingly as she entered the room to pour herself a cup of coffee.

"The classifieds," I said.
