THE CLINIC

The office was in Mayfair and although it was small in comparison to the boutiques and fashion shops it was, nevertheless, impressive. Stationary outside and parked on double yellow lines was a Mercedes saloon with its hazard lights flashing. A man was unloading a large parcel from the boot and chatting to a parking warden. On the opposite side of the road two teenagers stood grinning and pointing to the car.

"Look at that" said one. "ANA1. Have you ever seen such a number before?"

"What's up" said the other, "what's wrong with it?"

"You idiot. Look at the number 1. Does it remind you of an L?"

"Yes, I suppose." He broke off then realisation dawned. "Fuck me, it's ANAL" he said delightedly.

Across the road the man had delivered his parcel into the office and came back to the car where the warden waited patiently. The man said something and handed her a note and she smiled and walked on. The man got back into the car and it drove off down the street.
