"Just Drop A Hat" (Part 1)

Like most couples who've been together a while, Susan and I had talked about broadening our sexual horizons. We were both late thirties, married not quite ten years, faithful during that time but lately feeling that something in life was passing us by. Though we'd not yet identified what that something was, in retrospect we might easily have guessed. Because both Susan and I had been fairly active sexually until we met each other. The young ladies of the northeast women's colleges had provided my initiation into sex--- they, and their ilk in the offices of the high-priced Manhattan ad agency where I went to work. Susan, an honors student at Berkeley, had taken her tutor to bed after she was sure he was too happily married to create encumbrances for their relationship. She'd moved on to the San Francisco offices of a national magazine, where she worked her way, sexually speaking, from the mailroom up to the bed of the bureau chief--- who, like her tutor, was too happily married, and too afraid for his career, to present any kind of problem.
