A new man and new pleasures

It was so long ago, yet it is still vivid in my memory - the only affair I had with a married woman. It ultimately cost me their friendship, but the pleasure is what I remember.

I had known Mark and Denise for a couple of years. We'd met at a conference, got along well and stayed in touch. All of us were in our early twenties. Mark was very cerebral - intellectual. He considered himself mentally superior to most, but because I read a lot and could recall what I'd read, he had a degree of respect for me. It was fairly plain that he cared about Denise, but that he felt she was not his mental equal - he was very condescending when talking to her. He was handsome, taller than me at about 5' 9", and definitely outgoing, but he preferred quiet at home and wouldn't tolerate "small talk". You know, the things that his wife wanted to talk about - how was his day, what was he thinking about.

This left Denise with a less than great opinion of herself in many ways. I think she knew she was attractive, but there wasn't a lot of evidence that she felt she was worth something. She easily disappeared into the furniture when Mark was talking with people, and you could forget she was around. ...
