Encounters 2 - The lift

It was nothing special. One of those tedious office cocktail parties spent juggling a plate of impractical finger foods and a glass of cheap and unpalatable white wine. Making the rounds of clients and colleagues, smiling politely and surreptiously checking the time for an opportune moment to make an escape.

Courteously, but firmly, removing myself from the amorous clutches of the boss's wife I took a deep steadying gulp of my wine. As I raised the glass to my lips I caught the eye of this fantastic creature across the room. She was deftly sidestepping the finance manager's fleshy groping hand which was edging its way towards her. As she saw me, she rolled her eyes in commiseration and raised her glass. I returned the toast with a wry smile.

As I emptied my glass I lost myself in admiration for this woman. She couldn't work here. I'd have noticed. Every man in the building would have noticed. Her red sheath dress clung to her perfectly proportioned body in all the right places. In a room full of dark suits and power dressing little black numbers, she drew my eye like a moth to a flame. Her high heels raised her above most men in the room and the dark tendrils of hair that had escaped her chignon twisting like Medusan snakes about her face. A dangerous woman indeed and way out my league.
