I sat in the warehouse office, frustration mounting. It was Thursday of the following week. Tuesday had come and gone, with no chance to see Brody. Our volume had climbed to a record peak because of some new business. That, coupled with the firing of a few employees not meeting quota, had forced the seventy-odd people in the warehouse (Brody included) to work horridly long hours for the past week.

I suppose that I should have taken that as a sign, that perhaps I shouldn't be doing this. But I only sat and fumed, doing my work with my mind still locked in the bedroom of Ryan's apartment.

It killed me to see Brody. I would walk past, with a small wave or polite hello, pretending he was just another worker. I wondered what everyone would think if they knew. No one would expect that out of me.

I descended the stairs, looking for a case of sausage with no weights recorded. I had grown to love when I had problems, I gave me a chance to go to the warehouse and possibly see Brody.

I smiled when I arrived at the counter and saw him there, in between loads. I pretended not to notice him because there were a lot of people around. I looked up the door where route 45 was staged, and walked over to the cooler dock to check the pallet.
