It had been a two week journey to reach Kronella where I was due to meet King Luka for the first time since I had rejected his offer of marriage fifteen years ago. I had been Queen of Yolinda for only six months when he proposed, a gawky nineteen year old who like me had, had to take the royal reins early after our royal parents had been killed in the war with the Grodilians to the south of our countries. At sixteen I had not been ready for marriage nor to give up my heritage, but I had not really behaved very regally telling him I would never marry.

Now I was travelling there on a state visit to formalise economic and political treatises. Some members of both courts were hoping for a more personal alliance - marriage. This visit was the first that had been possible since the end of the war with Grodilia, that our two countries had eventually won and installed one of Luka's cousins' as Regent until someone in the Grodilia royal family was old enough to take over.

It had been a long war, starting when I was fifteen and ending when I was twentysix. It had taken four years for prosperity to return to East Dominion and I had felt it was appropriate to undertake a state visit. I was now thirty and considerably more mature than the first time I meet Luka, but I was nervous, as I had heard of his exploits on the battlefield and off.
