Tap Tap Tap Tap....

That damn metallic tapping sound, a slow staccato beat that originates just outside the window...It's raining again. The water rolls off the roof, into the gutter, and then down the spout. Makes that tapping noise when it hits the bottom. Been hearing it a lot this winter, and I get that same sinking feeling each time. This rain thing is getting old.

The TV is glowing in the corner. If I didn't have the volume muted, I'd be listening to the weather guy talking about the Pineapple Express. I don't need to hear this again. All month long the storms have rolled in from the Pacific, drowning us with a downpour that lasts two or three days, taking a break for a day or so, and then drowning us again. The satellite image on the tube looks the same as it has for weeks, one front after another stacked up from the west coast to Hawaii. Off the screen to the left they will be lined up most of the way to Japan. The Pineapple Express. Looks like it will stay wet for the foreseeable future. Shit.

I don't care if this is about El Nino or global warming or God's revenge on soft boys in San Francisco. I don't care.

I just wish it would stop.
