That Easter vacation of sophomore yr certainly did change our lives, for the rest of that year we went into a protective cocoon, keeping to ourselves even more then we had before. It wasn't until summer vacation that either of even thought about boys and that was only under pressure from my parents who thought I was seeing too much of Sue.

It is not as if they did not like her, but my mom said you never go out with boys anymore, I tired to tell her that most of the boys only thought about one thing and I did not feel like dealing with that crap. Therefore, I knew I had to date a few guys come home mad and she would get off my back.

Sue had the same thing going on at her house, but her since her parent always go on a "family vacation" our separation for at least three weeks was assured. She tried to stay home but that was a losing battle before it started.

The other change that summer was I got my first job, my father knew Max, the owner of a local diner and since he was looking for some extra summer help, I found myself working three or four days a week waiting on tables. It was not a bad job after I got used to the routine, I did pretty well making tips so for the first time I actually had spending money of my own.
