The Awakening, Part 1

The water was warm as it washed over his feet. The little waves rolled onto the beach as he stood at the edge feeling the sand shift below his feet as each small wave came ashore. The sun was a ball of blazing gold as it neared the ocean on it's descent to sunset. It was another one of those gorgeous tropical sunsets with a warm gentle breeze brushing past him.

Dave had been at the resort for three days and he felt the stresses slowly drain from his body as each day passed. His partner in the consulting business they ran was right when he said Dave needed to get away. The job had become all encompassing to him and he had little left for himself. He didn't have enough left over for his wife either and knew his intense concentration on the business had driven her away. He accepted that he had been at fault but it did not lessen the bitterness he began to feel at work. It became obvious to Dave's partner that he was becoming a hindrance rather than a benefit to the company. His insistence that Dave take some time off brought Dave here to this beautiful Caribbean resort.

He had let his mind wander but the warmth of the setting sun and the brush of the water over his feet brought Dave back. The sky had taken on a golden glow of it's own as the sun began it's slow descent over the horizon. He was feeling the first pangs of hunger and looked ...
