Hiedi's Worst Fears

Part 1

Hiedi Mallory sat alone in a swivel chair in the center of her basement salon, sipping at a cup of coffee and reading the morning paper. She rolled her eyes and sighed as the sounds of her husband, Stewart, snoring upstairs echoed down the steps.

For the past 20 years, the women in the neighborhood viewed Hiedi's Hair and Nail Heaven as the daily sanctuary for gossip, heresay, and frivalous ramblings.That had all changed two months ago when Stewart had injured his back at work and was confined to light duty around the house. He had served as a wet blanket hanging around the salon, complaining about his back hurting, cussing the kids when they were around and hollering at the tv when Jerry Springer was on. As this wore on, Hiedi was increasingly coming to her wits end.

At 51 years of age, Hiedi had figured another 7 or 8 years of running the salon along with Stew picking up his pension from the plastics plant he worked at, the two would be able to sell thier house and move to a nicer section of town to live out thier golden years together. But the last few months had sorely tested Hiedi's will. Stewart had become more and more bitter with the world and the accident did nothing to improve ...
