"From Whose Bourne/Lilith"

The following are two halves of a story, or twin stories, Siamese twins, perhaps, or a single story told from two different points of view and sensibilities. Two authors have collaborated but taken the same tale in different directions. Read it, them, as a literary experiment.

Story 1 "From whose Bourne no Traveler Returns..." by Trey Gallant and Homer Vargas

The rain lashed the windshield. Carl cursed as the engine began running rough. "Damn it, car, don't DO this to me!" Ever since he had gotten that bad tank of gas, contaminated with water and rust, his fuel lines had been clogging at unpredictable intervals. He peered through the sheets of falling water as the motor began to miss, looking for a place he could pull off the road. Less than 20 miles from the city, but there seemed to be no sign of civilization along the two-lane rural road. Wait. There was an entrance drive! He turned into the drive just as the car died, and coasted to a stop at the side of the pavement.
