The seduction of Lucy Hallaway

Chapter I

She stared across the playground at a pile of leaves that were being blown by the draft of the boiler-room below; they twisted and spiralled before settling down near a puddle in a corner of the tarmac area. Taking a final sip of her water bottle, she screwed the lid, put it into her bag, checking all her books were in there and turned to the double doors and stepped back into the familiar warmth and hubbub of school life.

Lucy Hallaway was a girl of 18 just beginning her sixth and final year at Penwood Hall secondary school. She lived in a small mining community south of the Rocky Mountains with her grandparents. Lucy's parents had both died in a car crash when Lucy was only three, so she had been too young to remember clearly and had led an otherwise happy childhood.

Although Lucy had been nervous about finishing a year, losing friends and nearing the end of her formal education, she was increasingly excited about finally being able to leave Penwood and start a new life in the city of LA.
