I wasn't the first ‘whiteboy' to intern at Dark Age Productions but it was still unusual enough to elicit stares when I walked down the halls. Dark Age was one of the newest and the hottest labels for emerging rap artists and they had already signed a number of solid performers in the rap world.

My dream was to be in the recording business and more especially the world of hip-hop and rap. My high school had a great relationship with Dark Age and had come to accept the bad boy image of the company along with generous endowments to the school which had made the company's image much more palatable. Dark Age in return got good press and free labor from some industrious teen-agers who were willing to perform the lowly tasks that others were not eager to perform around the studios.

At sixteen I was the youngest person working at Dark Age though they did have a few artists around the age of eighteen. The head of the company assured me that my age and my race would not be a problem at his production company. His name was Theo Phillips though he was known to most of the rest of the world as Dr T., his rap name, the one that had garnered him a grammy and several platinum albums in the early 90's
