Lunch Hour By The Black

He finished up the morning session of his class for new employees at eleven-thirty, a half hour ahead of schedule. He told the trainees to enjoy the extra half-hour, and that he'd see them back in class after lunch at 1:00 PM. He almost felt guilty for rushing them through the morning curriculum. Almost, but not quite.

When the last of the students were out of the building, he closed the exterior door and locked it. Now the building was empty except for him and the Office Coordinator. She was upstairs in the office they shared, probably finishing up some paperwork in preparation for her lunch hour.

He checked his watch. It read eleven thirty-six. Hmmm...not quite ninety minutes before the trainees returned. He rushed up the stairs.

His heart was pounding as he reached the upper landing, not because he'd leapt up the steps two at a time, but because the thought of seeing her - the anticipation of being in her presence - always made his heart race. How long had he known her? How long had they been working together? After all this time, he was still like a teenager about to go on his first date when he was about to see her again.

Damn...was this any way for a married man to be? ...
