It was way past midnight when I lay in my bed tossing and turning, and I just cound't get to sleep when I remembered that I'd forgotten to bring in all my packages from my shopping trip the previous day.

I knew I should have had air conditioning installed, but I'd put it off and my duplex apartment was extremely warm, close to 90 degrees inside.

I'd been lying there nude, when I remembered the packages I'd left in the trunk of my car and decided that since I couldn't sleep anyway, I might as well go outside to the garage and get them.

Because of the late hour, I knew most neighbors would most likely be in bed already except for the couple on the other side of my duplex. The husband generally sat up late at night watching TV, and his wife had to get up to leave for work at 2A.M. since she worked at a bakery and had to get everything made for the bakeries first customers who'd show up at 5A.M.

Our duplex had an unusual set-up, both apartments being townhouses, both of our rear entrances joined from the rear at a common entrance. This is how my neighbors and myself walked out to the garage behind our townhouses.
