Jessica wasn't prepared for the building inspector when he arrived at 7:15 in the morning. Her husband had left for work only twenty minutes before, and she had just emerged from the shower with only enough time to give her blond hair a shake and put on panties and a robe before the doorbell rang.

"You're Mrs. Roberts, right?" the fellow asked, referring to his clipboard.

"Yes...uh...you're very early." Jessica pushed an errant lock of hair away from her face and thought she must be a fright without a lick of makeup. Thank goodness she had at least had time to shower and brush her teeth.

"Well, we inspectors hit the streets at seven o'clock," Jake said. "I suppose your husband told you I was coming." ...
