Steve and I had been friends for quite a long time. We met when I was a fast food manager, and he was 16 and still in high school. Steve had a troubled childhood, and was always getting into trouble, and his mom(Peggy) was having a hard time keeping him in school. He would get into fights with other guys, and end up getting suspended from school for a couple of weeks. Peggy was a single widowed-mother who worked full time, and couldn't take off work all the time, to make sure he was behaving while at home, and not banging his girlfriend, or having the buddies over for a beer bash, etc... Steve's dad had died in a terrible car accident when he was only 4 years old, so he never really knew his father.

Peggy talked to an attorney who knew of a program he thought might be beneficial to her, and would help Steve get some much needed guidance in his life, but it would require Steve being expelled completely, from school. Peggy had no other options, except letting Steve go to jail, for being an unruly child. She thought about the options, and asked if she could see what this place was like. The attorney told her it wasn't really a place, it was more of a lifestyle. The child would still be in her home, but when she wasn't around, the "Counselor" would take her place, 24/7, all she had to do was call. Basically it was like having an on-call babysitter, with a little extra involved.

Peggy went to the high school counselor and principal with the program idea, and they were both for it. They had put up with Steve long ...
