I'm not sure what did it but for some reason I woke up late last night. I rolled over in half asleep state and fumbled for my watch. "Two O'clock! Guh!" I muttered to myself. "She's not going to be home for hours."

My girlfriend and I live eight hundred kilometres from each other but we do manage to visit each fairly regularly. It was my turn to visit her but unfortunately she couldn't get out of one rostered night shift whilst I was down. The rest of the time I had her all to myself. The hospital where she works as a radiographer was about a five minute walk away which was incredibly handy.

After lying there for half an hour I realised that getting back to sleep was not an option. On a whim I decided to go and visit her as there was a chance she would be bored, with no patients to X-Ray or anyone else to talk to.

When I reached the hospital I picked up a bunch of flowers from the kiosk and headed to radiology. I slid under the door sensor so the chime wouldn't go off and went to the staff room. It was obviously a quite night. Cate was fast asleep on the couch, pager resting beside her head and a phone hand set beside it. I very cautiously place my hand on her shoulder and gave her a nudge.
