Jack was not happy with the way he and Mandi had parted when last he was at home. She had more or less given him an ultimatum. It angered him at first. How dare she demand that he spend less time working, when all he ever did was work so that he could provide her with a comfortable life.

Jack recalled the night he had stormed out of the house after the heated discussion that had followed dinner. Mandi was being totally unreasonable. She demanded that he cut back on his work or else. He didn't enjoy being pushed into a corner like that and she knew it.

All during the run to New York and back he couldn't get things out of his mind. He had spoken to Mandi twice on the phone while on the road and neither conversation had ended amicably.

Generally Jack's easy going nature allowed him to quickly get over whatever they were arguing about, usually giving in just to make peace. But this time he decided to dig his heels in and ride the argument out. He also wondered what Mandi had meant by her demands that he work less or else.

Now he was less than 100 miles from home, and if anything he had only grown more angry while thinking over things during the 2 days on the road. Instead of being able to clear his mind as he usually did while driving, this time his problems just seemed to become magnified more. ...
