Friends and Lovers

It was a warm July night, a cool breeze rustling the leaves on the trees lining the driveway. Evan walked up the drive with a spring in his step; school was out and it was his favorite kind of warm summer night. Sarah had promised him that her party would be great and he had been looking forward to it all day. He reached the door and pushed the door bell, music, laughter, and the sounds of many small conversations filtering out from the open side windows. Evan smiled; he couldn't explain it, but standing in front of the door on this warm summer night he knew it was going to be a good night.

Sarah heard the bell rang and rose to her feet in the kitchen. "Excuse me girls," she said to the three girls who she had been conversing with in the kitchen. She moved through the living room towards the foyer and the front door, looking around at all her friends who were quite obviously enjoying her party. She was very pleased to see everyone having fun, however she was still waiting for one person in particular to arrive. She reached the door and peeked through the blinds, a smile appearing on her face as soon as she saw who was standing on the other side of the door. And here he is, fashionably late as always. "Hey babe!" she exclaimed as she opened the door.
