At eleven o'clock Tuesday morning Latimer sat across from Veronica in the visitor's room at the county jail.

"How's Bud?" she asked as usual. Although her pretty face was drawn, her color was warm and her spirits seemed bright.

"The same," Vince replied. "He went to camp with the Cub Scouts over the weekend."

"Oh, my!" Veronica remarked. "I forgot all about that. I never even mentioned it to Aunt Mary."

"Guess Mike Curry phoned an hour before the bus left, and she managed to get him there in time. It worked out okay." Then he added casually, "Bud told me about the wire across the top of the stairs."
