Arriving at work that hot July morning, Kelli knew right away that it was going to be one of those days. You know the kind. The kind of day that you wished you had called in sick, even though you were fine.

Her day started wrong from the moment she opened her eyes and saw the alarm clock blinking and realized that the power had gone off sometime during the night and now everyone was late.

Glancing at her wristwatch she saw that they were 20 minutes behind schedule. If she could get the children up without the usual begging and pleading that went on most mornings, she could still make it to work on time, but it would be cutting it close.

Her children both boys ages 6 and 8 proved to be quite a handful when her husband was away on business. When he was home they were better behaved it seemed.

He had to go out of town twice monthly to oversee the west coast operations of the consulting company he worked for. Being vice president of operations required him to be available if any problems should arise between his usual visits. Presently they were having staffing issues so he had left on rather short notice this time.

Kelli had been disappointed that he had left. There 10th wedding anniversary was coming up Friday and she and Rob had planned a romantic ...
