Kira woke slowly, her mind already whirling with confusion, with questions she was terrified to ask. As soon as she was fully awake she sat up, her eyes turning to search for Arenth even as they opened. She found him next to her as he always was. But he was awake. Her eyes wandered intently over his face, so familiar and much loved, tracing the lines of his snout, the points of his ‘crown', the curve of each scale....
