Chapter Ten:

Kira was on her way back to the ‘stables', the nesting cave used by dragons and their riders, when Kinean intercepted her, grabbing her by the arm and leading her roughly into a small niche in the cave wall. Her eyes widened as she was practically tossed against the wall and stared at him in shock.

Before she could open her mouth to ask him what he was doing, he growled at her, "So how long were you going to wait before you told me about the attack, woman? I have to hear about your dragon's wounds from a keeper?!" With each word, his voice rose in volume, until he was practically roaring in her face.

The realization of her mistake showed in her expression of dawning horror. Oh no! She'd been so consumed with her current problem, she'd completely forgotten to report to Kinean!

"Sir, I'm sorry, I did mean to report to you immediately. Arenth and I -"

He cut her off with a disgusted snort. "You talk of your dragon as though he were human! It disgusts me!" He grabbed her by the arm again ...
