The Rippling Spring

Everyone dreams about winning the lottery, but we never do. We keep wasting our dollars and keep on dreaming. Well, you hear tales of someone winning and all the things they buy and do. The most wonderful thing happened to me the other day, I WON. Instead of buying a bunch of stuff I didn't need, I decided to take a trip and do nothing. I would just take off for a while and get some fresh air. You know, just take a break from everything. I have always lived in the city and decided the best thing to do is go to the country. That's where this story begins.

I woke up early Saturday morning and put my coffee on, got the paper, and began to look for some place to go. I noticed a little town that a writer had written about. He talked of friendly people, gift shops, and cafes where you could sit down and eat a real country meal. This sounded like something worth checking out. I packed up some clothes and took off to relax and not be in any kind of hurry. I had all the time in the world. (Days, weeks or even a month if I wanted)

Of all places for me to end up, the town was named Halkinsville, named after a man named Sam Halkins. I stopped in at this little café to get a bite to eat, when I noticed a FOR SALE sign in the window. It was the Halkins family's old farm. I asked the waitress why such a place would be for sale, Sam being the town founder and all. She explained ...
