I had always been an independent, and stubborn human being. I take after my father in that respect, so when I announced that I had been accepted to an overseas study group for music, my parents were very uptight. I had applied to go to a music study class for 1 year in London, right out of high school. I broke the news to Mom, and Dad.

After what seemed to be endless arguments, I finally convinced them that I was going, with or without their permission. I had been saving a lot of money working for my parents trucking business, and had sold a couple of classic cars that I had bought and restored. On top of that, I had applied for a passport, and a work permit in the U.K., so they had no reason to say no.

The time came, and I was off. My folks had made arrangements for my to take a flat in London from a relative. It was furnished, so all I had was a large suitcase, a small one, and a backpack. I had a trunk shipped there earlier in the week, so it should have been there waiting for me.

This was the first of many long flights across tha pond I'd take in my life. I was looking forward to my independence, as I would have my very first apartment.
