Everything happens on our street, so it seems. Just now I was saying good bye probably forever to a real good buddy that I have known most of my life. People lately are coming and going. It never was that way. The old timers are becoming an endangered species.

On my way home, I happened to meet a lady that had just moved in. "Young man! Young man!" she called as I was passing. "Can you help me? I really need someone to help me with this awful yard. It is a mess -- isn't it? Who do you have take care of yours? You live hereabouts -- don't you?"

"Most people do their own. I'm the one that does ours," I replied as politely as I could. City folks have odd ideas.

"I'd be willing to pay you," she said with a big smile, as her eyes looked me over.

"I'll have to ask my Dad if I could use the mower, trimmer, and stuff. I think it will be all right. Could I have your phone number? I might have to call you."

She seemed pleased as she handed me the slip of paper with the information on it. "What is your name? You can call me Mrs. Loomis -- ...
