The summer of 2004 was the summer that our frayed marriage began to unravel. Tom thought it was my fault. I thought it was his. We could agree on one thing - the problems started in the bedroom.

It was getting so bad that we argued every night. By June 1, we decided to send my 5-year-old son Jacob to my parents' farm for the summer while we worked things out. Dad and Mom had been dying to have Jacob out there for the summer, and he was very excited about it. He'd be there for three months before he had to start the 1st Grade. Jacob's father, my first husband, lived near there and could visit Jake often enough to keep him from getting too homesick.
