Dani and I met through what you might call "projects of civic betterment." She is involved in just about every charity event in our area, and is known as "the person" to put in charge of any kind of fundraising endeavor. She is married to a really big wheel in the local business community, a guy who is fabulously successful - at least financially (though the rumor is that she is the actual brains of the operation). No one sees Dani as sexual, though, and that's kind of a mystery, since there is no denying her blonde haired beauty. It's just that she seems totally impossible to "get," and she somehow just doesn't project her sexuality in most public settings.

Frankly, I don't think I could have "done anything" to make Dani pay attention to me, had I wanted to do that. It was just a kind of amazing miracle, or luck, or whatever, that we got together, and that I found out about her. But it did happen. She gave me a strange look, and for the first time kind of "noticed" me. I'm pretty new in the community, running a big nonprofit social service organization, and normally I don't run in her circles. But in this case, we were both on a committee to plan a big "gala" fundraiser. She was the big cheese head of the operation, and I was just the "hired help," but somehow my remark drew her attention. ...
