Not quite light and I was ‘half-asleep' at the wheel of my little red van. It was one of those nothing trips for me to visit relatives who seemed as though they could care less if you never came around. There was a slight early morning mist to go along with my depressed state when BANG! It was right in front of me. A small car that just zoomed by hit a big solid oak close to the edge of the road.

After a panic stop to avoid the trash in the road, I pulled over. I got out to see if I could help. Practically nothing recognizable was left of the car, but the two doors that were wide open. A low heavy limb of the oak had taken most of the driver's head off - nothing to do there. It didn't bother me like it might some, because I was a Army medic in combat for awhile. I was about to go to my car to use my cell phone when I heard a strange whimpering sound. I stopped. I waited. Nothing more was heard, but I felt uneasy. ‘There could have been a passenger,' I thought. ‘Probably not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown through the door down into the ravine.'
