She was an odd girl.

Her name was Sarah, and I shared three hours a week in Modern French Literature with her. The class itself was odd, an interdisciplinary study taught by a French acting professor who didn't know squat about literature and didn't care that much that he was completely unqualified to teach our class. With only six people in the class, and a flexible curriculum which, on sunny days, involved lying about on the grassy Quad and discussing Descartes and Camus, I spent a lot of time casually looking Sarah over, and I suspected that under hooded lids she did the same with me.

Today was NOT one of those sunny spring days that make Washington such a joy to visit in March. Rather, it was a pissy and cold February day outside, and the six of us were sprawled out on the carpeted floor of a small class room up on the third floor of the theatre building. Monsieur Delavue was rambling, half in English and half in French, about the miserable existence of existentialist Sisyphus while three of the students took notes. I was not one of them, instead focusing on Sarah, who was lying down on the floor beside me, listening to the lecture.

She was dressed in jeans and a gorgeous fluffy white sweater, and since she was lying on her back with her arms back over her head, the fluffy angora top had the bottom zip partly up and was also pulled upward, ...
