Earlier this year, in early spring, we decided to take the kids on a camping trip. We had never been to this particular state park, but heard it was a popular campground because there were many activities available to keep the kids occupied. Another selling point is that each campground area had its own bathroom facility, which included hot water for showers. This was a necessity in order to get Terri to go along, and she put up a pretty good fight to stay home alone as it was. We all insisted, though, and she reluctantly agreed to go with us. I should have let her stay home.

The campgrounds are so popular that reservations are a must, so we were pleasantly surprised to find a space available on a weekend that schools had observed as a spring holiday. I packed up the minivan, as Terri had packed almost all of the clothes for the weekend. One activity I was looking forward to was hiking around the park. As we drove up to the gates of the park, there was a line of vehicles waiting to check in at the Ranger's station. We finally got checked in, and as the Ranger was showing me the directions to our camping area, he mentioned that we were lucky to have gotten a space, but he hoped that our area would not be too rowdy. I asked him what he meant, and he said that several area colleges were using the park for a cross-country meet that weekend, and he hoped all of the activity would tire the kids out, so they wouldn't be too rowdy. He added that I could call him if there were any problems. I assured him that there probably wouldn't be a need to call him, and left to get set up. ...
