It was well over a week before I heard from Ann. I thought I had blown it and I didn't know why. But when I saw her walk over to the fence to talk to me the following Friday evening I approached with apprehension.

'Hi how's you?' Ann asked very matter of fact.

'Good. I didn't mean to upset you last time we parted.'

'Sorry I think I over reacted to the situation' she replied. Then in a slightly lower voice 'I just want to keep what we have as a very separate thing.'

'I think I'm glad to hear you say that.'

'Look, Brian's away this weekend so I'd like to get some stuff done, are you about?'

'I have no plans' I replied with a twinge of joy in my voice.

'Look, come over tomorrow morning and we can do some work on the back garden.' She said, but I could see there was a glint in her eye.
