Percy Rotter and the House of Femina

Chapter One

One week after his eighteenth birthday, Percy Rotter was contacted by the Genital Warts College of Witchery, via a tiny parchment letter rolled up and tied to the leg of a white cockatoo which flew in through his open bedroom window.

It couldn't be a joke, thought Percy, because he had no friends who'd pull one on him. And as for his step parents and step sister, while they were fond of making his life miserable, none of them had the wit to come up with such a ruse, nor the energy to implement it. And it didn't hurt that the cockatoo could speak....

The cockatoo explained in a soft, very upper-class British accent, that Percy was the issue of sorcerer who had left him on the doorstep of the family that'd raised him ever since. As for why they'd accepted the responsibility? Greed. Pure greed. Not only were dozens of gold coins left within the basket he arrived in, but a note promising "more coins to come" made it sure that he'd have a home until, as the deal specified, he turned eighteen. The cockatoo promised to be back soon and flew away.
