What's in a Name?

Her name was of no consequence though she had oft times wondered about it. Years ago when she was a little girl; a farmer's daughter locked away in the safe confines of gentle naivety, she'd had a name then. Sometimes she could close her eyes tightly and almost hear the syllables from the lips of her mother... a woman's voice she had lost in the hum of all the others she heard every single day.

A lady, a noble concubine, elevated in status over the peasants that lived so far below the windows of her Lord's castle; her rooms so high above their fears and concerns. They belonged to her Lord just as surely as she did yet two possessions were never entirely equal. The fine jeweled sword and the dull butter knife looked much alike in principle but their uses were as different as night and day.

So many things had changed from the moment she was picked. There was a great deal to learn, far more than the simple life her father's household had promised or held. Eloquence, dancing, conversation, literature, art, needlework... the Lord was not merely looking for a play thing. The opportunity presented to her was far more than a common whore walking the street.
