Tom Loses Big Time by A. C.

After Joe came home from Alexandria, Virginia, he spent the weekend romancing his wife until late Sunday night. Then he packed his suitcase and kissing his wife goodbye, got in his car and headed to the western part of the state to follow up on the heavy-duty truck problem there. It was after midnight when he checked into the motel just southwest of the city. Because he was extremely tired, as soon as he was in his room, he went to bed immediately.

The next morning the front desk clerk awakened him at six o'clock. He shaved and showered and went to the motel dining room for breakfast. It was packed with people. He got the last table available. The waitress came and took his order and disappeared into the kitchen. A few minutes later he looked up and saw a woman about his age come into the dining room. She looked around the room for a table and found none empty. Just then the waitress came by and Joe told her to ask the woman if she wanted to join him at his table. The waitress went over to her and Joe watched her talking to the woman. Then the woman followed the waitress back to his table.
