The Vault

The early morning sun was blasting into the kiosk as Donna was starting her part-time summertime job at the local stop-shop. She was a it worried that her job was due for the ‘chop' because so few people bought films or tobacco nowadays. In fact the ‘weed' was going on the local list for prohibition next week and they had cleared out the top shelves where they displayed it.

She was glad she had chosen her set of antique hot pants to wear that day, as they showed off her tanned legs. She felt they were her greatest asset and she was hoping that some of the young trainees passing to their work would spot her reaching up for the top shelf and come into the retail counter and give her the first sale of the day.

No such luck, though, as her boss came in twenty minutes later and gave her the bad news that she had been expecting.

"Donna, I'm afraid I've got to let you go. They are shutting me down and keeping the current workforce on at the Vault until this year's people move on. They're not going to employ anybody else from now on, so everybody's going to be looking for work.
