It was painfully obvious to Henry Stinson that his daughter was not happy. In fact she was almost irate. It wasn't so much what she said but it was that icy tone that let him know that she was far from amused with the world in general and his efforts to secure her a good match in particular.

Elaine's voice dripped sarcasm with virtually every syllable. Henry Stinson sighed. He'd thought that the match between her and Chivington had been chiseled in granite. He'd been shocked when he'd learned that his five thousand dollar dowry/bribe had been turned down so contemptuously by the redoubtable Edmond Chivington the third. Now he was looking into Elaine's frosty gaze. "So what do you suggest that I do?"

Elaine grimaced, "Maybe you could attempt to discuss the situation with Edwina bloody Ballister and see if she has any more bright ideas. Maybe ...
