Quintus valerius stood across from Senator Cornelius's library desk. The older man faced the tribune with a face of stone. "I take it you come from Sejanus. So what's the news?"

Quintus smirked a little. "Well senator, it has come to Lucius Sejanus's attention that you may have been guilty of some treasonable activities a few years ago."

Gaius spoke to Sejanus's lap dog with utter contempt. "You and I both know those charges are a pile of bull dung. Please don't waste my time with such garbage. What does Sejanus actually want?"

Quintus found his gaze riveted by the senator's authoritarian stare. He'd forgotten that Gaius had been a powerful Roman officer in the past. Quintus decided that this man at least deserved the truth. "Putting such charges aside, Sejanus requires your estate here in Roman for the use of Tiberius and himself of course."

Gaius raised his eyebrows with mirthless humor. "Of course Quintus! So how long would he like to use my villa here and when can I move back in?"
