EDWIN'S CONQUESTS 11 BY WILL BUSTER

Richard was beside himself. He knew that if he took Fitzgibbon to trial the evidence would not be enough to convict unless he paid the judge a huge sum of money and even then Fitzgibbon's father might intercede. If that happened, Richard would have a powerful enemy at court and that was not desirable when he had extensive possessions in France to defend and maintain. Richard was one of those few who still had holdings on both sides of the channel. He really didn't want to bring to many people into this plan either. He couldn't just kill the creature outright. It would have to appear as an accident or an illness or perhaps an ambush by the Welsh. The problem was the Welsh weren't out and about this time of the year so that possibility was out.
